Wow, that's a great review man! I've heard of the game but never really took an in depth look at it. This definitely is worth checking out and I'll download the demo tonight!

I share your feeling of a somewhat "lack of direction" as to what game to move on to. BF2 was my first FPS, and although I enjoyed it alot, CoD4 hasn't snagged me, and the release of BF3 is still questionable. That being said, im either going to have to find another good shooter, maybe ARMA, or return to my RTS games :? .
2008 is really a lapse year in game releases... other than SCII theres nothing really exciting coming out as of yet.

Anyway, thats for your thorough review ill be sure to look into this.

Hm ...

I downloaded and installed the demo in March (or was it early April? LOL).

A working installer on XP should be nothing special today :P

Okay - ready to hop in.

Mission1: Kill all enemies in that village and hop in a Blackhawk.
Okay - I started moving - and I had no idea, what my squad did all the time.
Got 2 kills, went to the medic tent and jumped in the copter.
Game over.

Mission2: Learn to fly the Blackhawk!
Okay - haha - a Blackhawk. That american Schoolbus from BF2
First thing: Hmmm ... controls? My joystick doesn´t help me (maybe, I have to do a setup somewhere in the options).
Read a quickstart manual again.
After several crashes (no - I have no Pedals and have to do all by keyboard ... no problem, if you know what keys to use), I did that job.
Wait! I did it in several steps, cause in the last five tries, my computer crashed and I had to reboot (that only happens in that game).
That copter is comparable with the littlebird in BF2 (PR).
Had the same exeriences with the people to evac.
Someone was lying on his deckchair, too lazy to get in my copter. *LOL*

Mission3:
To be honest: No idea. Started, stopped ... had no time to do that again.

Multiplayer is no option for me. That whole squad-control stuff needs time and work.
And I have no time ...

I will reinstall that game, when I have more time to get through the manuals and Howtos and whatever.
It looks good, but I don´t think, that it will get me.

Maybe, I just get to old for that stuff :P

Hey Evil_Echo, i really recommend America's Army

It is a VERY realistic first person shooter and the weapons are near realistic in effects too,

This game was made by the Army Computer Gurus so it is very accurate to situations that you know happen in real life.

Only downside, you have to complete some tests and stuff before you can earn your badges. Those tests however, are fun as well

OVER 10,000,000 PEOPLE PLAY THIS GAME AND IT IS FREE!!!!!!

Here is the link to download the FULL game....... VERY LARGE FILE 1.99 GB http://americasarmy.com/downloads/files ... xe.torrent

I installed americas army and I removed it after 4 or 5 of these "tests".
I spent the last minutes on a chute waiting to get that thing done.

The weapons (so far) are good and graphics are nice.
The funny thing is, that you are always in the US team *LOL*
So in the end, you play US vs. US :P

I don´t know, how many of these 10,000,000 people have downloaded, installed and trashed that game, because they got bothered by these loooooooong period of tests.

By the way ... how many test do they have current? Maybe, they changed something in the last 12 month :P

Not sure but you can look up some tuts on how to do the one to get the Green Beret. Last i remember, i wanna say 10ish

But yea, that is the only downside.

You fight the insurgents, you are always americans because it is made by the army and they dont want you to be the bad guys......... know what i mean? Anyway, the enemy is ALWAYS the insurgents so it is not like America Vs America

To you, you might be shooting an M-16 but to someone else, you have an ak or something like that

It is a much better game than you give it credit for xD

Too bad - I love the AK :P

I know, why they did that. But the concept is pretty funny
